Special Sale of 350 Selected Limousin Cattle
28th April 2015
A special sale of 350 selected Limousin cross heifers with calves at foot, bulling heifers and yearling bullocks will be a highlight of Scotland’s Beef Event 2015 to be held at Mains of Mause, Blairgowrie, Perthshire, on Wednesday, May 27.
All the cattle will be consigned by host farmers, Pater and Pat Alexander, and son, Murray, from their 1000-cow suckler herd which is one of the most renowned in the country and the largest herd of commercial Limousin cattle in the UK.
The sale will be held at the end of the one-day event starting at 4.00pm and the various lots will be split into sizeable batches, rather than singles and pairs, to make the sale more attractive to prospective buyers.
The offering will comprise 40 heifers with spring-born calves at foot, 8 heifers with autumn-born calves at foot, 20 second calvers with spring-born calves at foot, 50 bulling heifers and 180 yearling bullocks. The sale will be conducted jointly by United Auctions of Stirling and Lawrie and Symington of Forfar.
“This sale will be a huge attraction as Limousin breeding stock and store cattle from Mains of Mause, reared on a high-lying Perthshire hill farm, have a well-deserved reputation for high quality and ability to go on and thrive,” said David Leggat, executive chairman of United Auction.
“The sale will provide buyers with a unique opportunity to source the very best of commercial Limousin breeding stock and stores from a herd which has been built up over the years on the best genetics in the Limousin breed.”
Scotland’s Beef Event 2015 is the first national event of its kind organised by the Scottish Beef Association and Clydesdale Bank has been confirmed as main sponsor.
Theme of the event, which is expected to attract several thousand beef farmers from across the UK, is Beef from the Hills. Visitors will have the opportunity of viewing the Limousin herd and the Alexander’s flock of 2000 Blackface and Mule ewes on tours of the farm by tractor and trailer which take place throughout the day.
